Long Live

Monday, January 2, 2012

Back in July, we took a little weekend trip to Indianapolis.

We were going to see Taylor Swift in concert at Conseco Field House. Sweetpea got tickets for her birthday. She was almost as excited about it as me!

While we were there we also got to visit with Mike from The Diabetics Corner Booth and his lovely wife, Suzi! We also visited the Indianapolis Children's Museum. It was a lot of fun!!

Did diabetes cooperate? No. I remember she was high. And really grumpy. But times has softened the edges and left us with some wonderful memories!

Now, I may be 30something - but I LOVE Taylor Swift's music. If you haven't already figured it out- I love music and lyrics. I love finding the perfect song for a situation. And Taylor's got some great lyrics! Lots of her songs take me back in time and remind me of certain people and experiences.

During the concert, she played the song Long Live. Now, I'd listened to it before. But for some reason that night the lyrics really spoke to me. Maybe it was that I was standing there, holding my little girl. Maybe it was that we'd been fighting highs all day. Maybe it was that she had really wanted cotton candy and I had to fight with myself because although it was a special night- giving pure sugar to a kid who's bg was over 300 is not really a great idea. Maybe it was everything....

But it was these words...

Long live the walls we crashed through
While the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, long live all the magic we made
And bring on all the pretenders, I'm not afraid

Long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
I was screaming, long live the look on your face
And bring on all the pretenders, one day we will be remembered

Those words that me think for the DOC and our fight.

As we begin a New Year battling the same disease, I just wanted to take a minute and share this song and the emotion behind it.

I'm proud of what we have accomplished individually and as a group. And I look forward to future. A future filled with HOPE.

Because how could it be filled with anything else with all the amazing people moving our cause forward?

I may not have chosen this life and at times would give it back in a heartbeat, but I have had the time of my life fighting dragons with all of you.

So here's to 2012... And crashing through more walls and, hopefully, finally beating that dragon for once and for all!
